Earth in Peril

Global warming is real,

What we need is a sensible strategy that deals with it. the idea of a cap and trade system that is air tight is long over due. The developed world needs to lower its carbon emissions and the developing world needs to move towards cleaner and more renewable forms of energy. We ignore this fact at our own peril.

Dirk Nowitzki is a bust

I saying it late but I am calling it strait. Dirk Nowitzki the big man of the Dallas Mavericks is bust in the NBA. His teams have under performed every year and the Jason Kidd trade has not made them a better team. The window is closing Mavs fans. Brace yourselves.

The leopard can't change its spots

Syria hosts the Arab League summit today. This is an open ended farce. Syria is guilty of exported violence and chaos into neighboring Lebanon. In addition it is aiding known terrorists and is politically close to the pariah state Iran. In addition to this Syria is a known human rights abuser. It is clear that the leopard can't change its spots.

Zimbawbe's election will be rigged

Robert Mugabe is an unmitigated disaster. In the thirty years he has been in power Mugabe has led the country into ruin. Wake up Zimbawbe and over throw this goon.

Lets put an end to career politicians

If there are term limits on the presidency why aren't there term limits in congress?

Its sad to say that congress has a glut of career politicians. These people do not really serve the interests of the their constituents and are more focused on serving special interest groups. I am advocated term limits on senate seats and congressenional seats as well. Clearly the system is being corrupted by people who are so entrenched that it is difficult to remove them.

Obama should face tougher scrutiny

Illinios Senator Barack Obama should face tougher scrutiny by the media in general.

Senator Clinton his main rival has always faced tough scrutiny. So it is only fair that the junior senator from Illinios should face the same. This is as a result of the Reverend Wright incident.
Keep it real.

Barack should distance himself from Reverend Wright

After making homophobic and racist comments Reverent James Wright should not be let off the hook. I know America has a long history of racism towards minorities but that does not excuse people from racism of another kind. Senator Obama should distance himself from reverend Wright and re-evaluate his position with his former preacher. Please Senator do not let this negative incident tarnish your chances of becoming president

Linguistic Nationalism is Stupid

Linguistic nationalism or the phenomenon of changing words for the purpose of cultural control is pointless.

There are nationalist movements in both France and India to change foreign words and substitute local ones. This is a ploy by a small minority to change memory and it will not work. Silly people you cannot substitute such words as Couriel for Email. It just doesn't work and you should not try. Similarly the Indians tried changing the city of Bangalore to Bengalaru. This is equally stupid. Place names are a part of memory and no amount of name modification can change that. People should wake up to this nonsense.

Political Transperancy and Not Voting makes for Free Elections

Contrary to what many think Political transperancy and not voting makes for a free and fair election.

In Russia and Iran were elections are rigged from the start those elections are illegitimate. You could have %100 voter turn out and if the election is stacked to benefit one side over another it is not free and fair. I would rather have a low voter turn out and a free election. Than I high voter turn out and a rigged election. America's election matters percisely because it is both free and fair. We have political transparency while others only have political opacity. Speak truth to power and fight for real change.

The role of visionaries

We need to support visionaries and their work. They include all kinds people who do work that benefit all of us. Visionaries tell us what we do not want to here but we need to hear non the less. Visionaries have always come at odd times and unexpected ways. None the less we need all of them.

If it doesn't happen in the Middle East its not News

Iraq, The Isreali-Palestinian conflict and Afghanistan get a lot of media attention.

However there is another major conflagration we should be paying attention to. It is the Kashmir Conflict between India and Pakistan. The Kashmir conflict affects more people than does the Arab Israeli conflict. However since it is not in the Middle East it is not considedered newsworthy.

Phillip K Dick was a genius

Known primarily as a science fiction writer, Phillip K Dick the author of more than fifty books and a hundred short stories was a genius who died sadly well before his time. He was the man who helped create Blade Runner and A Scanner Darkly among others. What made Phillip great was the fact that he was anti authoritarian and he was a true maverick visionary. Writers like him do not come along very often.

Tibet Should be Free

China is oppressing the Tibetan people. It is waging a campaign of brutality against unarmed Tibetans. China should just up and leave Tibet. I am all for Tibetan self determination. Also I don't believe the lies the Chinese government is saying. Speak truth to power.

The Next Era

The Next Era is the robot age

Advances in artfificial intelligence have paved the way for the coming robotic age. Already robots are being used for several areas including bomb detection and detenation. When the civillian sector gets involved the robot age will really take off. We need Asimov's three laws.

The Private Space Age

In 1994 the first commercially launched rocket ship went up that sent an astronaut into orbit.

What made this event significant is it was the first manned space expedition not to be funded by the government. Now Burt Rutan and others are getting into the space bussiness. The future is private space travel. Basically it is rich geeks with the right stuff.

Evolution got it right

Do not attempt to pass off intelligent design as science. Clearly it is not. Intelligent design is just weak creationism in another guise. Darwin's model is correct and it is the one we should rely on.

Historical Revionism Sucks

Personally I detest historical revionism. It is utter and complete garbage. The people who advocate it are really stupid. You cannot white was the past and make it seem like something its not.

Take for example a British writer who claimed that the Jews died of Disease and not of murder in the holocaust like it actually happened. Wake up to reality people you cannot deny the past and you should not try to do so.

Iran's elections are a Sham!

Yesterday Iran held rigged parliamentary elections
We all no Iran is a big time dictatorship as an unelected body decides all the real laws.

Hundreds of moderate politicians were disqualified on vague and trumped up charges. Stop calling yourselves a democracy Iran. Your government is an insult to that said term. We all know that Ayatollah Khomenei is the real power in that country and he is unelected. Speak truth to power.

Eliot Spitzer should resign

After yesterday's humiliating sex scandal New York Governor Eliot Spitzer should resign

I am sure the tax payers of New York State hate the fact that their hard earned money is being used to pay prostitutes. This is a tragic irony in the sense that Eliot Spitzer made his career in politics as being Mr. Morality when he was serving as the District Attornery of New York city. Please folks lets have higher standards for our elected officials.

The Longshot

I know it is a bit of wishful thinking but I hope the Bay Area in California wins the 2016 summer games. It would be really great to have olympic events take place in my own home town of Palo Alto. I am pretty sure this won't happen as New York City gets a huge sympathy vote. Although I think we deserve it more. One day I hope to see the olympics in NOCAL. That would be a dream come true.

Writers and Lying

Even when you write fiction there should be a sense of integrity

the publishing bussiness has been wracked by a series of scandals relating to fake memoirs. Although I partially think it is there fault. The publishers did not invest time and resource checking the back story of the writers in question. If you choose authobigoraphy there should definately be some standards involved. This is in reference to the fake gang leader memior that proved to be a fraud. Really folks honesty, honesty and honesty is the best policy.

China and the Olympics

Why did the International Olympic Committee give China the 2008 games. China is a known human rights abuser with a long track record of hurting dissidents and supressing free speech. Why are the wealthy and powerful nations cowing to it. This makes no sense on any level. Speak truth to power.

Abolish the FCC

The Federal Communications Commission should be abolished

It is an agency that has no clear purpose or mandate. This agency was a product of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal. The FCC was set up to regulate radio and was later expanded to televesion. With the advent of the internet and the fact that electronic media of various kinds are blending into one another it is not clear that the FCC has a traditional and well defined role to play. It is an aged bureacratic dinosaur with its best days long behind it.

American Xenophobia

The Dubai Ports world deal in 2006 highlights just how xenophobic post 9/11 America really is.

We tend to think that all muslims are bad which is simply not the case. It is almost like we have become the United States of Serbia. Lets pause and think foreigners and foreign based corporations all ready own large holdings in the United States. Take for example the port of Long Beach which is co owned and manged by a company with connections to the government of Singapore. Since they wre not Arab and Muslim not a peep of negative attention was placed on them. That is why I think this is stupid.

Columbia is a mess

Contrary to what Hugo Chavez says and thinks about the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia they remain merely a terrorist and criminal organization.

The FARC are engaged in numerous criminal enterprises including kidnapping and drug smuggling. I agree that the democratically elected government of Columbia has every right to destroy the FARC. They are the enemies of civilized peoples throughout the Western Hemisphere.

Tabo Embeke is an Idiot

The President of South Africa is a moron.

President Embeke's nation has the highest per capita Aids and HIV infection rate and he is claiming that the two are not connected. Clearly he does not live in same reality that the rest of us do. Its true not all the people who have gotten HIV have died of AIDS yet. But it is also true that all the people who have died of AIDS got HIV before the died. President Embeke please wake up to reality.

The importance of Africa

President Bush just concluded a six nation tour of Africa.

The Importance of Politics of the dark continent can be felt even now. Africa does have a lot of natural resources including oil, uranium, diamonds and gold that are of immense value to the United States. Never has African politics been more important then now. Especially in light of Kenya and Darfur. We need to have an over arching strategy that promotes allies and helps solve conflicts within the African continent.

Direct Energy

Previously Direct energy seemed to only exist in the realm of science fiction. Some examples would include Flash Gordon's raygun, Captain Kirk's phaser or Darth Vader's light saber.

However recent advances in the science of deutrerium flourine have made possible direct energy sometime within the next twenty years. New frontiers in energy science are being developed that will transform physics as we know it.

Wiki Leaks should stay

Anonymous whistelblowing is a good thing.

That is why I am in support of www.wikileaks.com. It is a website that allows poeple to load damaging information about governments and corporations without fear of reprisal. Also I am equally saddened that a US district Court Judge ruled that wiki leaks was in violation of a US law and was forced to shut down. It is a sad day for whistle blowers everywhere.
Wiki leaks was founded by Chinese dissidents who wanted to put up damning information about the Chinese Communist Party. Don't worry wiki the fight goes on.

Renewable Energy Should be big concern

A major focus of Energy policy in the next five years should be commercially viable renewable energy

This is important because some projections have it that the world will run out of petroleum in 50 years. If we do not have a viable alternative source of energy for both electricy and automobiles we will be in trouble. The good thing about renewable energy is that it can reduce our dependency on foreign oil. That makes it so we are less subject to the arbitrary politics of organizations such as Opec. Renewable energy such as wind, solar, geothermal and water can be made viable if the right amount of capital and science is put forth to develop them. That is all for now.
