Orlando in the finals

Yesterday the Orlando Magic for the first time since 1995 earned a trip to the NBA finals. It is a big surprise to the Cinderalla story of this years NBA playoffs. No one expected, except me of course that Orlando would get this far. I was aware of that as well.

The Sri Lankan Massacre

Late this past week over 20,000 civilians primarily Tamils were killed on mass by the Sri Lankan Army. This amounts to a good sized genocide. It is also the results of the end of the thirty six year long struggle with the LTTE also known as the Tamil Tigers. This sad state of events should have never happened. I was aware of that as well.

Standing Up

Lets face it the world is an insane place. we have to shake our heads just how things got to this state. It should not be this way but it is. This is the way things will have to be for a long time. I was aware of that as well.

A Place Called Home

Home can be two things. It can be a literal, physical place. However it can also be a spiritual place as well. Home is after all what we make of it. The place can be anywhere we are so long as we are whole. I was aware of that as well.

playing like the MVP

He might not be the NBA MVP but Dwight Howard is playing like the MVP. Originally he was my choice for the MVP award. The Award should be purely merit based. Howard happens to be an exceptional player and the league's future. I was aware of that as well.

India votes for stability

The poll results are in and the Congress Party headed up by Sonia Ghandi won the majority of seats in the Indian Lokh Sabha (People's assembly). The congress party won some 165 seats out of 250 available seats. They still need to forge an alliance with a smaller party in order to declare a decisive majority. Either way this is a major setback to LK Advani the senior leader of the BJP. Manmohan Singh the current Prime Minister is due to get a second term easily and now he has the political support he needs to see through necessary reforms.

the fate of free societies

A free society is the key to democracy. However in the age of terrorism keeping a society free is an ongoing struggle. The rule of law and the maintenence of order is also key to the survival of democracy. I was aware of that as well.

where do we go from here

My party the GOP needs to reinvent itself. We have to return to what made the GOP strong in the past. The idea of local control needs to be revisited. We cannot allow one party rule to continue forever. I was aware of that as well.

the end of Prabakaran

Late yesterday Tamil Tiger leader BS Prabakaran was shot dead in a gunfight with forces allied with the government of Sri Lanka. The long time terrorist leader and terror path breaker whose suicide bombings in the early nineteen seventies inspired the PLO, Hezbollah, Hamas and much later Al Queada was at long last killed. Prabakaran and his movement are dead and the world is much better for it.

working day blues

Right now it is taking me a long time to do everything. The situation has proven to be rather unique to say the least. Still I am determined to make something out of it. I was aware of that as well.

Please Houston Take Down LA

this is my plea to the Houston Rockets to please beat the LA Lakers. Suddenly the LA Lakers have a fight on their hands instead of a route and slaughter. Now the Rockets can show what they are made of and playoff eliminate the evil Los Angeles Lakers. I was aware of that as well.

the rise of Lebron James

Lebron James has come a long way since he was the youngster who couldn't score on Bruce Bowen. Still I thought that the MVP award should have gone to Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. None the less this past season has seen a battle hardened maturation of a budding star athelete. Lebron James makes playoff basketball look easy. I was aware of that as well.

days of the working stiff

Now that I am proudly a working stiff I have to say. It is quite the experience. Literally I do get stiff at the end of the day. The last two days my joints have had the constency of cardboard. I was aware of that as well.

putting it all together

Over time I will have finished my new poetry book, my historical novel and my autobiography. The work has been quite gratifying to say the least. Completing it on a working schedule has been rather demanding to say the least. I was aware of that as well.

necessary risk

Kasab's lawyer is taking a necessary risk. His brave and gallant actions are helping to enhance both democracy and civil society. Without people like him such entities would not exist. Kasab might be an evil terrorist however even evil terrorists deserve a fair and honest trial. I was aware of that as well.

of for the irony of it all

My life of late has been more than a little ironic. Things shouldn't be the way they are but some how they are. Now I have to deal with the fallout of my decisions. Coming to grips with this last fact is rather difficult. I was aware of that as well.

feeling the pain

It seems that this region of the world namely South Asia is in a lot of pain of late. Pakistan is in Civil War, Bangladesh is a mess and Nepal isn't much better off with their government on the brink of collapse. It seems that this region of the world has an unusually high amount of trouble spots to say the least.

In the next period I will develope the novel Blue Smoke and the poetry collection shadow street. It is my wish that my work should stand the test of time. This is a rather unique situation to say the least. I was aware of that as well.

The Pakistani Civil War

Right now my father's home country is in a state of civil war. There are basically two camps, the pro democracy camp and the military. The two are duking it out for control of the country with the ordinary citizens caught in the crossfire. The Pakistani government is all but impotent in the face of the rising levels of terrorism from Al Queada and the Taliban. If Pakistan destabilizes completely it will be India who will feel it. Remember Mumbai is closer to Karachi than it is to New Delhi. When Pakistan heads south it is we who feel the pain first.

the last full measure

This is a unique moment to say the least. We are in the era of the last full measure. Things are changing rather quickly now. The situation will improve over time to say the least. I was aware of that as well.

the long way home

Right now I am planning on the return trip home. My work will last for another month and half. Also I am looking forward to my elder sisters wedding. It looks to be a good time this coming summer. I was aware of that as well

The Kasab Trial is actually a good thing

Believe it or not the trial of terror suspect Mohammed Ajmal Amir is actually a triumph for the systems of democratic governance. If we are to believe that we respect the rule of law we have to give fairness were fairness is due. Think of it this way in other countries you can be tried without being able to face your accusers. In addition they can bring secret evidence and convict you even if the charges are erroneous. The Charges in Kasab's case are air tight however the system has to be upheld. It would be a huge image blow of Kasab were to be killed by a riotous mob instead of by hanging of in front of a firing squad. India would be viewed as a third world back water if that were to happen. Think of it this way, if the law does not stand up. We should demand nothing less

feeling the heat

Right now where I am in India it is the height of the Summer. The temperature is steadily rising. I was wondering if things would ever cool off. This is still a unique time to say the least. I was aware of that as well.

the enforced hiatus

Now that I have taken time off from College I have to pause and think. Where will I go from here. The situation medically is still a big problem. It will have to be addressed rather deftly to say the least. I was aware of that as well.

A Day At the Beach

This past weekend my family and I went to the Beach near Mumbai India. The place was a town called Murood. It is not far from Kashi a beach and Alibaug a small port city. This place had beautiful water and generally kind people to say the least. I was quite pleasantly suprised. Tomorrow its back to the grind
