The Kasab Trial is actually a good thing

Believe it or not the trial of terror suspect Mohammed Ajmal Amir is actually a triumph for the systems of democratic governance. If we are to believe that we respect the rule of law we have to give fairness were fairness is due. Think of it this way in other countries you can be tried without being able to face your accusers. In addition they can bring secret evidence and convict you even if the charges are erroneous. The Charges in Kasab's case are air tight however the system has to be upheld. It would be a huge image blow of Kasab were to be killed by a riotous mob instead of by hanging of in front of a firing squad. India would be viewed as a third world back water if that were to happen. Think of it this way, if the law does not stand up. We should demand nothing less

What about Ajmal Kasab's Indian Attorney. People are mad at him for defending Kasab. However to me he is the true Indian hero, putting up with this petty criticism from his countrymen. He is standing up for the system he believes in. People like Kasab want to blow up India exactly because it has the institutions that are now giving him a fair trial. As for the expense of a democracy, if you think democracy is expensive try the cost of a malevolent dictator.
